Temporary Tattoos: Custom, Personalized, Designs, Or Make Your Own Ink

It is every parent's nightmare their young teenage sons or daughters will go away for the weekend, unsupervised for the first time, and come back with their noses pierced and their bodies tattooed. The teens are at that age when parents just do not understand; and they need to do something so drastic their parents will finally start listening to them. Fortunately, now there's a way that these teens can make that statement without regretting getting a skull and crossbones tattooed to their arms. Temporary tattoos provide the look and feel of a real tattoo without the feeling of permanence that usually comes with them. These tattoos are perfect for the teenager who wants to stand out from the rest, for those who are scared of needles or for those who want to try out a few before taking the plunge and getting a real tattoo.
Parents need not become upset when their kids come home with temporary tattoos, since they generally last only 4-7 days. Temporary tattoos are usually applied to the skin using water or rubbing alcohol, as the liquid transfers the design to the skin. Skin needs to be clean and oil-free in order for the temporary tattoos to stick properly. Temporary tattoos should be allowed to air-dry for a few minutes after they are applied, but after that, they are completely waterproof. Wearers of these temporary tattoos can bathe and swim as normal. When these tattoos begin to chip away after a few days, oil-based creams should be applied, then rubbed away with a damp wash cloth.
Those thinking about getting temporary tattoos first need to decide what kind of design they might want. Temporary tattoos come in virtually all designs and categories, from animals and flowers to zodiac signs and Celtic symbols. Temporary tattoos are also available for any part of the body, with types specifically made as an armband, around the belly button and ones large enough to cover an entire back. Basic temporary tattoos are relatively cheap as well. Depending on size, prices range from $2 - $10 at the online retailer Body Graphics.
If tattoo-getters are not satisfied with the galleries of pre-made temporary tattoos, many retailers offer custom and personalized temporary tattoos as well. Custom temporary tattoos generally have to be ordered in bulk, with the minimum quantity of 500. Photos or computer file images should be emailed or faxed to the chosen custom tattoo retailer, and from there the company will create the specific temporary tattoos. Buyers choose the size, colors and effects. In as little as 5 days, the buyer will have his or her own stock of custom, personalized temporary tattoos.
Tattoo Manufacturing, Inc. attests to being the "World's Leader in Temporary Tattoos," and they offer 500 custom temporary tattoos for under $75. While some may think that 500 is too many temporary tattoos for just one person, they will have enough to apply a new one everyday, and no one will be able to tell that it is not a real tattoo.
If these options still are not what the tattoo-getter is looking for, tattoos also come in the "make your own" variety. By purchasing special "water slide" temporary tattoo paper, anyone can create a unique design using Microsoft Paint, or any other program, and print it on this special paper. These "make your own" temporary tattoos should be applied as any other temporary tattoo, but these should not come into contact with water or be worn for more than 24 hours. These unique temporary tattoos are perfect for those with complicated tattoo designs in mind, or for those that do not need a bulk order of temporary tattoos.
Temporary tattoos may just be the answer for those rebellious teenagers who want to express themselves without getting grounded. Since these tattoos only last a few days, parents will be happy to see there is no permanent reminder, and teenagers will be happy they once again have a blank canvas to start all over again.
